A. Nicolet, Les Ponts de Martel, Swiss, circa 1900. Fine 18K gold, moon-phase astronomical keyless minute repeating watch with perpetual calendar and chronograph.

C. Four body, massive, "demi-bassine ", polished. Hinged gold cuvette. D. White enamel with Roman numerals, outer minute and chronograph ring, subsidiary dials for clays of the week, months of the leap year cycle, the date and seconds with inner moon phase aperture (slightly restored). Blued steel "spade" hands. M. 19"', gilt brass, Lemania ebauche 29 jewels, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring. Repeating on gongs with slide in the band. Chronograph with visible work and button on the winding crown. A. Nicolet signature scratched on the reverse of the dial. In very good condition. Diam. 54 mm.

Notes

Armand Nicolet was born at Les Ponts de Martel, Canton of Neuchatel en 1871 and died in 1944. He was specialised in the production of complicated watches and mainly worked for Mathey Tissot. Jean-Claude Nicolet, his grandson is a well known figure in La Chaux-de-Fonds where he spent all of his teaching career as a professor at the horological school.
