Unsigned, German, circa 1880. "Birds of Love" Fine tortoiseshell, singing bird box, in black leather fitted box.

C. Two body, entirely made of tortoiseshell with hinged back panel for the key compartment, the top corners inlaid with silver, gold and mother-of-pearl floral decoration. The gilt brass singing bird cover chased with cherubs releasing birds from a cage. Singing bird movement: rectangular plates with going barrel and rectangular bellow, the bird with moving wings and beak, controlled by two cams mounted beneath the barrel wheel, gilt brass grill engraved with foliage. Dim. 100 x 70 x 35 mm.
