Unsigned, English, circa 1740. "L'espoir de to fidelite fait ma settle fel kite" Fine 22K gold and cornelian compendium, containing fine gold and cornelian travel toilet accessories including a pair of porcelain scent bottles; accompanied by a later black leather fitted box.

Double body rectangular, cornelian with pyramidal top, fully overlaid with gold open work chased with inhabited foliage and pastoral scenes, pine-cone finial and diamond-set push piece. The border of the lid with the inscription over a white champleve enamelled ground: L'espoir de la fidelite fait ma scale felicite. Four gold feet designed as scallops. Dim. 95 x 57 x 47 mm.
