Double body rectancgular with canted corners, base and side panels of blue flinque with white and blue champleve enamelled borders, the lid with a very fine enamel panel, painted with a scene featuring Science and Love in an attempt to stop Time personified as Kronos, within a gold frame chased with a wreath of leaves, (sides restored). Signed centre right. Dim. 71 x 100 mm.

Lissignol Jean-Abraham (1749 - 1819) Very well-known painter on enamel from the second part of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century. Ile was the pupil of Marc Roux. Then, in 1767, he went into partnership with him and with Joseph Cabanal. He decorated snuff-boxes and watch cases and worked for Jaquet Droz and Leschot, the Rochat Brothers and John Rich.
