MARBLE MANTEL CLOCK WITH VISIBLE ESCAPEMENT L. Barbaste, Paris, No. 3513. Made circa 1860. Fine and impressive, black and rouge griotte marble 8-day going, hour and half-hour striking mantel clock with visible Brocot escapement and visible gridiron pendulum.

Shaped and molded black marble with drum-form clock housing, waisted body inlaid with rouge marble discs, gilt-edged glazed aperture to view the pendulum flanked by fluted rouge marble columns, hinged gilt bezel with rouge marble surround. D. White enamel annular chapter ring with radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, the recessed center with visible Brocot escapement on a white enamel backplate, regulation arbor above. Blued steel halberd hands. M. Circular brass plates, going barrel for both trains, Brocot escapement with jewelled pallets, three-rod brass and steel gridiron pendulum with lenticular brass bob with white enamel backplate, rating nut below. Movement signed. DIM. 45 x 37 x 17 cm.
