Notes

Pouzait Escapement
In the late 18th century, Jean Moïse Pouzait (1743–1793) developed a distinctive lever escapement designed to produce dead center-seconds, highly sought after in both scientific and Chinese markets. Presented to the Société des Arts de Genève in 1786, Pouzait’s model combined a large seconds-beating balance with divided-lift pallets derived from the pin-wheel escapement. Despite its sensitivity to inertia, the design was admired for its precision and visual appeal and represents one of the earliest introductions of the lever escapement to the Continent.
