MATHEY INDEPENDENT CENTER SECONDS & DIABLOTINE Julien Mathey, Locle, No. 10671. Made circa 1865. Fine and very rare, large, heavy 18K yellow gold, two-train, keyless pocket watch with independent centre-seconds and 1/4 second Diablotine.

Four body, massive, ?bassine et filets?, engine-turned with polished borders, the interior of the front cover with engraved dedication, button in the reeded band at 12 for the seconds and diablotine start/stop. Hinged gold cuvette with engine-turned border. D. White enamel with narrow radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, outermost seconds divisions divided into fifths of seconds, subsidiary 1/4 second diablotine. Blued steel Breguet hands. M. 20???, rhodium-plated, fausses cotes decoration, double train with differential winding, 27 jewels, the upper escape wheel jewel in a gold chaton, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator with engraved scale on the bridge. Cuvette signed. DIAM. 53.5 mm.
