Notes

Founded in 1886 by Edmond Mathey-Tissot in the village of Les Ponts-de-Martel, the manufacture is known for having supplied the US Army during World War I and II. For instance, the General Pershing used to offer a Mathey Tissot to award the members of his own staff. When Breguet, in 1954, after successfully fulfilling the French Ministry of Defence's requests, started to produce the Type XX « Flyback » for the French naval air army, Mathey Tissot was the subcontractor who manufactured and assembled these pilot’s chronographs. That is the reason why there are so much resemblance between the two « Type XX »: 38 mm round case, black dial two registers with luminescent hands and numerals, manual winding flyback movement. Rarer than the Breguet Type XX, this lot is not only a milestone in the watchmaking industry, but it also represents part of the modern military history.
