Notes

Montblanc, “Mahatma Gandhi”

Montblanc created this pen in honour of Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948), in a commemorative limited and numbered edition of 3 000 examples.

The white lacquered barrel stands for truth and peace. The sterling silver mountings on cap and cone are shaped to resemble a spindle, Gandhi’s favoured symbol of common cause with the people. The clip is set with a bright mandarin garnet, whose cut is reminiscent of a spinning wheel, an object of great symbolic value to Gandhi.

A solid gold version of the fountain-pen was produced in a limited and numbered edition of 241 examples.

The ball-point-pen was produced in a limited and numbered edition of 3 000 examples.
