Notes

Montblanc, “Oscar Wilde”

Montblanc created this pen in 1994 in honour of Oscar Wilde (1854-1900), in a limited and numbered edition of 20 000 examples. The third of Montblanc’s “Writers Edition”.

Pearl and black precious resin swirl together in a rich marbled pattern, enhanced by vermeil mountings, recalling Wilde’s dedication to the finer things in life; Wilde famously remarked that the best way to eliminate temptation is to yield to it.

The ball-point-pen was produced in a limited and numbered edition of 7 000 examples.

The mechanical pencil was produced in a limited and numbered edition of 12 000 examples.

A set of three writing instruments, comprising a fountain-pen, a ball-point-pen and a mechanical pencil, was produced in a limited and numbered edition of 5 000 examples.

Wilde, Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills
October 16, 1854 – November 30, 1900

Irish poet and playwright. After writing in different forms throughout the 1880s, the early 1890s saw him become one of the most popular playwrights in London. He is best remembered for his epigrams and plays, his novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, and the circumstances of his criminal conviction for gross indecency for consensual homosexual acts, imprisonment, and early death from meningitis at age 46.
