Montblanc, “George Bernard Shaw”

Montblanc created this pen in 2008 in honour of Bernard Shaw (1856-1950), in a limited and numbered edition of 16 000 examples. The seventeenth of Montblanc’s “Writers Edition”.

The pen’s design was inspired by Eliza Doolittle’s character in Pygmalion (which later became, in 1956, the musical, My Fair Lady), with a deep-green marbled lacquer finish and increasingly wide platinum-plated rings, representing her transformation from Cockney flower girl to lady.

The ball-point-pen was produced in a limited and numbered edition of 18 000 examples.

The mechanical pencil was produced in a limited and numbered edition of … 000 examples.

A set of three writing instruments, comprising a fountain-pen, a ball-point-pen and a mechanical pencil, was produced in a limited and numbered edition of 4 000 examples.

Shaw, George Bernard
July 26, 1856 – November 2, 1950)

Irish playwright, critic, polemicist and political activist, known at his insistence simply as Bernard Shaw. His influence on Western theatre, culture and politics extended from the 1880s to his death and beyond. He wrote more than sixty plays, including major works such as Man and Superman (1902), Pygmalion (1912) and Saint Joan (1923). With a range incorporating both contemporary satire and historical allegory, Shaw became the leading dramatist of his generation, and in 1925 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
