Montblanc created this pen in 2008 in honour of George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950), in a limited and numbered edition of 16,000 examples. The seventeenth of Montblanc’s “Writers Edition”.
The pen’s design was inspired by Eliza Doolittle’s character in Pygmalion (which later became, in 1956, the musical, My Fair Lady), with a deep-green marbled lacquer finish and increasingly wide platinum-plated rings, representing her transformation from Cockney flower girl to lady.
George Bernard Shaw
British Literature's Brilliant Free-Thinker
(July 26, 1856 – November 2, 1950)
The Dublin-born dramatist, playwright, critic, is known for his free spirit and his criticism of social evils. "Pygmalion" is Shaw's most recognizeable work, portraying his literary creativity. In this dramatically brilliant comedy filled with wit, social criticism, fine irony, Shaw subtly ridicules the class classifications in Victorian England.
In 1926, George Bernard Shaw was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. In 1938, he won an Oscar for his film script adaptation of "Pygmalion".
