Notes
In 1995, Montblanc launched a limited edition set in honour of Voltaire (1694-1778), the pen name of François-Marie Arouet, a French Enlightenment writer, philosopher, satirist, and historian. This release marks the fourth edition of Montblanc’s “Writer’s Edition”, comprising a total of 20,000 pieces. Born into wealth, Voltaire was a man of social conscience, advocating for freedom of thought through his controversial writings. Renowned as the Father of Enlightenment, he made lasting contributions with his sharp wit and critiques of Christianity, especially the Roman Catholic Church, as well as his freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the separation of church and state.
The Montblanc Voltaire is a captivating tribute to one of modern history’s greatest thinkers showcasing both fine materials and exquisite craftsmanship. Its charm lies not only in the luxurious black resin finish, which mirrors the depth of Voltaire’s thoughts, but also in the engraved vermeil fittings that reflect his subtle wit. This meticulous attention to detail embodies the spirit of the Enlightenment, making the Montblanc Voltaire not just a writing instrument, but a stunning homage to intellectual brilliance. A true masterpiece, it celebrates the legacy of a visionary in an elegant, sophisticated manner.
