A Tribute To A Literary Master

Thomas Mann was a German novelist, short story writer, social critic, philanthropist, essayist, and the 1929 Nobel Prize in Literature laureate. Possibly no other author in the 20th century was able to depict with illustrating the intriguing contrasts between the bourgeois mindset and free-spirited thinking. Inspired by his own family condition, Mann wrote his first novel, Buddenbrooks, a major literary success reflecting the decline of a wealthy north German merchant family over the course of four generations.

The design of this limited edition takes its inspiration from the era of Art Deco. The combination of the multilayer composition and black lacquer is reminiscent of the complex relationships of the characters Buddenbrooks. The rhodium-plated 18K gold nib bears an engraving of the Buddenbrooks house, evoking the house where Mann was born.
