A fine and rare fountain pen. A Journey Among Dragons: The Heavenly Dragon: Limited to 88 pieces (2018). The barrel and cap is crafted with lacquer and 925 sterling silver with an imperial dragon in a sinuous form coiling around it with champagne-tone 18K gold fittings. The dragon’s head and cloud patterns, evoking Chinese stylized clouds, is meticulously cast and hand-engraved on the sterling silver cap with brilliant blue sapphires as the eyes. The dragon’s body is etched into the white lacquered barrel, revealing the underlying sterling silver, complemented with blue lapis lazuli on the end of the barrel, and 18K gold nib with fine engravings. The Montblanc emblem inlaid on the cap top.
Over centuries, the East Asian dragon has been portrayed in myths and legends with a multitude of forms and traits. From these narratives, a few dragons have emerged as the most revered: the Earth Dragon (Dilong), the Heavenly Dragon (Tianlong), the Water Dragon (Jiaolong), the Winged Dragon (Yinglong), the Azure Dragon (Qinglong), and the Yellow Dragon (Huanglong). Montblanc dedicates a very special Limited Edition series to these powerful dragons, who are deeply rooted in East Asian culture. The fourth series of this collection features Tianlong, the Heavenly Dragon.
This exquisite writing instrument is crafted in the sinuous form of an imperial dragon, symbolizing yang (the sky), mercy, and the Emperor's celestial power. The dragon's head is hand-engraved on the 925 sterling silver cap with blue sapphire eyes, while its body is etched into the white lacquered barrel, revealing the underlying sterling silver as it dances through the clouds. A great bringer of mercy, and the Emperor's celestial counterpart, the dragon is depicted dancing through the clouds. The 18K gold nib is delicately engraved with a symbol found on large bells. This symbol is a reference to Chao Feng, the fourth of the dragon's nine sons, recognized for his affinity for howling.
