Notes

Ref. CK 2915-2 was launched in 1957. This reference is the first generation of the celebrated ?Speedmaster?. In designing it, Omega sought to create a robust, accurate and easy-to-read chronograph wristwatch. Waterproof to 60 meters, with a shock-resistant and anti-magnetic movement, it quickly gained a reputation among sportsmen. Pierre Moinat, then head of product development at Omega, conceived of a sports chronograph with tachymetric scale, whose highly legible indications were inspired by those of Italian sports cars of the time. The most brilliant feature was the placement of the timing scale on the bezel itself, thereby making the dial more legible. This idea was later copied by the majority of watch manufacturers. The name ?Speedmaster? probably comes from the fact that the tachometric bezel makes it extremely easy to calculate the speed of a moviing vehicle. This reference is called the ?broad arrow? due to its distinctive hands.
