Broad Arrow Omega, ?Speedmaster?, movement No. 15997819, Ref. 2915-2. Made in 1957. Very fine and very rare, water-resistant, stainless steel wristwatch with round button chronograph, registers, tachometer and a stainless steel Omega link bracelet.

C. Three-body, polished and brushed, tachometer graduation to 300uph on the steel bezel, screwed-down case back. D. Black with luminous painted baton indexes, outer minute/seconds and 1/5th seconds divisions, subsidiary dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers. Luminous steel broad arrow hands. M. Cal. 321, copper-colored, 17 jewels, straightline lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self compensating flat balance spring. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 39 mm. Thickness 13 mm.

Ref. CK 2915-2 launched in 1957, this reference is the first generation of the celebrated ?Speedmaster?. In designing it, Omega sought to create a robust, accurate and easy-to-read chronograph wristwatch. Waterproof to 60 meters, with a shock-resistant and anti-magnetic movement, it quickly gained a reputation among sportsmen. Pierre Moinat, then head of product development at Omega, conceived of a sports chronograph with tachymetric scale, whose highly legible indications were inspired by those of Italian sports cars of the time.

The most brilliant feature was the placement of the timing scale on the bezel itself, thereby making the dial more legible. This idea was later copied by the majority of watch manufacturers. The name ?Speedmaster? probably comes from the fact that the tachometric bezel makes it extremely easy to calculate the speed of a moviing vehicle. This reference is called the ?broad arrow? due to its distinctive hands.
