D. Black with painted luminous baton indexes, outer minute / seconds divisions, date aperture. Luminous white hour and second hand, luminous orange minute hand. M. Cal. 1002, copper-colored, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self-compensating flat balance spring. Dial, case and movement signed. Dim. 45 mm x 55 mm. Production of this ref. began in 1970. While others used helium escape valves to solve the problem of the crystal ?popping? during decompression, Omega created an impenetrable case. They were able to create a vacuum in the case such that it would take 1000 years at normal atmospheric pressure for air to penetrate the case. One of these watches, tested in a pressure chamber, continued to function to 137 atmospheres, the equivalent of 1370 meters of depth.
