Notes

This lot is part of a series of special limited edition watches produced by Omega to introduce the new De Ville line of timepieces with coaxial escapement. The series consisted of 1 unique example in platinum; 3 sets of three watches each in 18K yellow, red and white gold; 33 watches each in 18K yellow ,red and white gold. The coaxial escapement was developed and patented in 1980 by Dr. George Daniels. It represents the first practical new watch escapement in the 250 years following the invention of the lever escapement by Thomas Mudge in the 18th century. Its advantages are considerably reduced friction, greater precision, finer tolerances, an increased lifespan and longer intervals between servicings. The result of 20 years of research and development by Dr. Daniels and 5 years of extensive testing by OMEGA, its to date the only timepiece in regular production with this type of escapement.
