Lacquered brass square-shaped dial for desk-clock, showing a wind rose at the centre of a maritime map on black background, caravels, mermaids and whales on the waves replace the index; signed lower right “J P M”, Jean-Pierre Matthey.

In the lower left corner, Christopher Columbus and one of his sailors take possession of American land in the name of the Spanish crown by erecting the holy Catholic cross; in the lower right corner, Queen Isabella of Spain; in the centre, the caravels are an evocation of the ships of the Genoese sailor, his boats are the Pinta, the Nina and the Santa Maria.

On the reverse of the dial, a handwritten label bearing the following inscription “Conquérants / 59.8D Réf. 20 / 49.9 8D Réf. 100”.
