This year the Leukemia
Society of America is
celebrating its 50th
anniversary as a not-for profit,
voluntary health agency
dedicated to seeking the cure
of leukemia, lymphoma,
Hodgkin' s disease and
Myeloma and improving the
quality of life for all patients.
The Society focuses its
resources on the development
of six major programs:
research, patient aid, public
and professional education,
advocacy, and community
service.
Since its establishment,
the Leukemia Society has
invested more than $145
million in research grants to
physicians and scientists who
are affiliated at accredited
institutions in the United
States and throughout the
world. It is important to note
that many of the modern lifesaving
methods of treating
other forms of cancers were
pioneered directly as a result
of leukemia research. These
include 40 drugs that kill _
malignant cells, development
of antibiotics and anti-viral
drugs to treat infections,
improved radiotherapy,
transplantational medicine,
improvements in the
treatment of graft versus host
disease, as well as blood cell
replacement therapy. New
horizons are leading the
Society into the development
of immunotherapy and gene
therapy for treatment of
leukemia, lymphoma and
myeloma.
improvement although there
is a great deal to accomplish.
Society Researchers will
not be satisfied until survival
rates for leukemia and related
cancers reach 100%. The
Leukemia Society of America
looks forward to the day when
leukemia, lymphoma,
Hodgkin's disease and
myeloma are relegated in
history books along with polio,
leprosy, and smallpox.

Cindy Crawford is one of the most recognizable faces in the world, having
appeared on over 400 magazine covers throughout Europe and the United States. She
recently took on a new challenge by authoring her first book Cindy Crawford's Basic
Face, a make-up workbook published by Broadway Books.
Crawford crossed over from the world of fashion and beauty to the arena of
broadcast journalism as host of MTV ' s "House of Style" for six years. In 1995 she
hosted her first special for the network which featured a behind-the-scenes look at
"Melrose Place, " "Saturday Night Live" and the White House as well as interviews with
Shaquille O'Neal and Rosie O'Donnell. In 1997 she returned to "House of Style " as a
featured correspondent and guest hosted ABC ' s morning talk-show, "Regis & Kathie
Lee" and NBC's late night show, "Later." In November 1997, Crawford signed an
exclusive, three-year development and promotional deal with ABC. Her first project
for ABC is a special entitled, "Sex with Cindy Crawford, " which aired on the network
in the Fall of 1998.
Crawford made the move to producing in 1992 with the highly successful "Cindy
Crawford/Shape Your Body Workout. " In addition to starring in the exercise video,
which she developed with personal trainer Radu, Cindy also served as an executive
producer. Topping Billboard's Health and Fitness charts since its debut in October
1992, the video has sold over 2 million copies in the United States alone.
Due to the overwhelming response to the "Shape Your Body Workout, " Crawford
reteamed with Radu and Good Times Home Video to release a follow-up called "The
Next Challenge," which has also proven to be a best-seller. The video is comprised of
one complete workout program that features a "cross-training" approach to total body
workout, rather than the circuit training approach of the first video.
Crawford made her acting debut in October 1995 opposite William Baldwin in
Warner Brother's action adventure film "Fair Game " for producer Joel Silver. In April
1996 she was a guest host on ABC 's "Muppets Tonight" and in 1995 Cindy co-hosted
the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards with William Baldwin. In 1992, Cindy hosted
two specials for FOX-TV: "Concert for Life" dedicated to the memory of Freddie
Mercury and broadcast live from Wembley Stadium, and "Stuntwomen World Tour
92, " a look at Hollywood's stuntwomen.
Born and raised in DeKalb, Illinois, Crawford took part in the Elite Model
Management's Look of the Year competition in 1983 and placed among the top 15
finalists. She went on to become one of the most successful models of all time. Her
commercial introducing Pepsi ' s new look was a finalist for Advertising Age 's "The Best
Awards 1991." Cindy is well known as an international spokesperson for Revlon and
for her annual calendars. In 1996, Crawford entered into a work relationship
representing Omega watches worldwide.
Cindy divides her time between New York and Los Angeles.
