Notes

An extraordinary early Speedmaster, this Omega Speedmaster CK2915-1 represents one of the most desirable and historically important configurations of the very first generation of the model that would become a cornerstone of horological and space-exploration history. Introduced in 1957 as part of Omega’s original professional tool-watch trilogy, the CK2915-1 is revered for its distinctive broad arrow hands, steel “BASE 1000” tachymeter bezel, and robust aesthetic, a design language that defined the Speedmaster lineage from its inception.

The present example stands at the summit of collector appeal, featuring a superbly aged tropical dial with a rich and captivating tone developed through decades of natural exposure. The radium-lumed hour markers and broad arrow hands exhibit a warm, even patina that testifies to both authenticity and remarkable preservation. This harmonious aging creates a visual depth prized by connoisseurs of early sports chronographs and considered one of the ultimate attributes for a museum-grade CK2915-1.

Its original stainless-steel case retains excellent proportions, preserving the bold geometry that made the reference iconic. The steel tachymeter bezel, a signature reserved only for the earliest Speedmasters presents beautifully, with period-correct engraving that underscores its pivotal role as the very first Speedmaster bezel design. Inside ticks the legendary Omega calibre 321, a column-wheel chronograph of exceptional pedigree, renowned for its precision and revered among collectors as one of the finest mechanical chronograph movements ever produced.

While the bracelet is a later-period replacement, its presence does not detract from the overwhelming originality and authenticity of the watch head, the true essence of collectability in an early Speedmaster. All key components remain correct for the reference and era, placing this example firmly among the most compelling surviving CK2915-1 watches known.

Early CK2915-1 Speedmasters with tropical radium dials are exceptionally scarce, and examples of this caliber seldom emerge from private collections. The combination of untouched radium elements, deep tropical transformation, early-reference significance, and strong originality offers a rare convergence of historical importance, aesthetic allure, and market desirability.

A magnificent CK2915-1 for the uncompromising collector, a trophy-grade Speedmaster that embodies the genesis of one of the most celebrated chronographs of all time
