Notes

The case of the this watch was probably replaced relatively early in its life, possibly as a result of the original having been damaged. Many watches of this type were sold in America and it is probable that the original owner thought it too difficult or costly to return the watch to Switzerland for a new case. The screw-down bezels of the present case also attest to its American origin. A watch with identical dial and movement, signed for Tiffany & Co., No. 174688, sold in June 1917 to Tiffany, New York, is illustrated in "Patek Philippe, Geneve", Huber & Banbery, second edition, 1993, p. 205.
