Notes

Superbly adjusted Swiss watches of the period, and particularly Patek Philippe's, were signed "EXTRA" or "SPECIAL". The pillar plate is stamped under the dial "Brevete 1016", which refers to Swiss patent 1016, granted to Patek, Philippe Co. on May, 23, 1889, concerning "watch stem wind and set". The dial on the reverse is signed, as many Patek Philippe dials of the period, "PR" (e.g. No. 77204, 90130, 96205). The caliber is identical to Patek Philippe No. 100000 sold to Tiffany in 1897. The hitory of this one is more interesting; the Company's archives show that it is 19''' extra quality movemenet made in 1893 and sold, also in 1897, to Mercereau & Cornell, probably Tiffany's agent at the time.
