Patek Philippe Adjusted Extra & Guillaume Balance ? 3rd Prize Geneva Observatory 1906. Patek Philippe & Cie., Geneve, No. 129663, case No. 243024. Made for Shreve, Crump & Low Co., Boston, in 1905, Geneva Observatory 3rd Prize obtained on April 23, 1906, adjusted for trial by C. Batifolier. Sold on July 30, 1906. Extremely fine and rare, 18K yellow gold, keyless adjusted ?EXTRA" lever chronometer pocket watch with Guillaume balance. Accompanied by the original fitted box, Extract from the Archives and extract from the Geneva Observatory register.

C. Four-body, "bassine", polished, concealed hinge. Hinged gold cuvette. D. White enamel with Breguet numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds dial. Blued steel spade hands. M. 41 mm., 19???, ?Extra?, rhodium plated, fausses cotes decoration, engraved twice with the movement number, 17 jewels, wolf's tooth winding, straight-line counterpoised and calibrated lever escapement, anibalbrass Guillaume balance with winged arms, gold and platinum temperature adjustment screws, blued steel Breguet balance spring with terminal curve, diamond endstone, swan-neck micrometer regulator. Dial, case, cuvette and movement signed, cuvette and movement also signed by the retailer. Diam. 49.2 mm.

Notes

The Extract from the Archives confirms the enamel dial with Breguet numerals.This watch was submitted for testing at the Observatoire de Geneve in 1906 where it won 3rd Prize with 230.7 points. The rates of deviation were as follows : Ecart moyen de la march diurne 0.24 s Ecart moyen de position 0.66 s Erreur de compensation 0.009 s Reprise de marche 1.30 s When destined for Observatory Timing Contests, the movements of Patek Philippe watches, like those of other makers, were double engraved with the movement serial numbers. The inscription "Extra" on the bridge of the movement refers to the high finishing of all the parts of the movement.
