Patek Philippe Split-Second Chronograph - 5 Co-Axial Hands Patek, Philippe & Cie., Genève, No. 90253, case No. 206922. Made in 1891, sold on September 30th, 1891. Very fine, 18K pink gold, keyless pocket watch with split-seconds chronograph and 60-minute register using a central pink gold hand. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives.

Four-body, "bassine", polished, hinged case back engraved inside: RG from Mother 1894, hinged bezel, chronograph safety bolt on the band at 11 o'clock, hinged gold cuvette engraved: No. 902 53, Tiffany & Co. New York. d. White enamel with Arabic numerals, outer minute and fifths of a second divisions, sunk subsidiary seconds dial. Blued steel spade hands. m. 38 mm., 17''', rhodium plated, fausses cotes decoration, 26 jewels, counterpoised straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Dial, case, cuvette and movement signed Tiffany & Co. Diam. 47 mm.

This watch has the extremely rare feature of five co-axial hands - the minute and hour hands, the split-seconds chronograph hands, and the central minute recording hand. Watches by any maker incorporating this feature are very rare and to our knowledge only three other examples of this type by Patek Philippe exist. Another example was sold by Antiquorum, Geneva, March 20, 2010, lot 379. This watch is thought to be the only example known made for Tiffany & Co.
