Notes

The Extract from the Archives confirms that the present lot's movement, dial and hands were made and sold in 1885. The case, very unusual, intricate and heavy, was added later. It is difficult to identify the origin of the case, which has many features of a French-made piece, although without any French assay marks. This suggests that it is either Swiss or Italian and was possibly, due to the excellent design and craftsmanship, made for the 1889 World Exhibition..
