Notes

Patek Philippe began producing skeletonized watches in the 1920's. Very few were made, some have never been sold and now form part of the permanent Patek Philippe Collection (e.g. No. 198221 with skeletonized movement made of steel). In the 1980s the company returned to the idea of skeletonized movements launching limited number of dress watches and few wristwatches, such as Ref. 3878. The present watch is one of very few skeletonized Patek Philippe dress watches that have appeared in the aucttion market.
