Notes

Due to the rigid coupling of both barrels via the stem winding system, the independent train barrel has no stop-work and is fitted with the earliest form of "free" driving spring, patent No. 5894 by Adrien Philippe, dated June 16th, 1863. A very similar watch, but with gilt-brass movement, is described and illustrated by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery in Palek Philippe Pocket Watches, Second Edition, 1991, p. 235, coloured plates 161 a and b.
