Patek Philippe, Reference 2582
This reference is launched in 1956 (or 1957) and remained in production for one or two years.
This large round-shaped watch is fitted with the Cal. 27 SC, centre-seconds.
The majority in yellow gold; only one example in pink gold id known to-date.
This is the largest vintage “time-only” wristwatch ever made by Patek Philippe and one of the rarest.
Very few examples were produced.
The watch is so-called “Flying Saucer” by collectors.
Most of them seems to be built with a two-piece case with snap-on case-back (by Markowsky, Geneva), from which only six are known to-date, including one in pink gold.
For this reference, the present watch is the only known example of a two-piece water-resistant watch with screwed case-back (case F. Baumgartner S.A., Geneva). This may explain the late production of this watch, probably made to special order, by the Genevan specialist in water-resistant cases.
