Born in 1976, the Nautilus is the second watch designed by Gerald Genta, after the Royal Oak in 1972. The name of the model comes from the sea, the Nautile is a deep- sea mollusc. It is also the name of Jules Verne's "Vingt milles lieues sous les mers" submarine: the-shaped of the case recalls the maritime porthole.
The first reference is 3700/1 manufactured from 1976 to 1981, followed by 3700/11, produced from 1981 to 1990. The first version is the most sought-after by collectors.
The proposed one is from 1977, sold on February 7th 1978. The so-called "television" case disrupted the codes of the time, which were as avant-garde as ever. The nickname "Jumbo" refers to the 42 mm.case, which was certainly oversized for the time.
A magnificent timepiece that is totally successful and original, which has been able to survive the years with great success, although it was not well received at the beginning.
