Notes

Launched in 1976, during the quartz crisis, the Nautilus is the second watch designed by Gerald Genta, after the Royal Oak in 1972. The shape of its case, very avant-garde for the time, reminds one of a porthole, which might explain its name after Captain Nemo's fictitious submarine, in Jules Verne's famous book Twenty Miles Under the Sea (1869-1870).

The first reference is the 3700/1 manufactured from 1976 to 1981. Patek Philippe launched the reference 3711/1G in 2004 in Basel. It was soon discontinued, in 2005. It was only produced in white gold with a black ribbed dial. The 3711/1G similar to the reference 3700 in shape and size, featured a centre seconds and a sapphire case back, paving the way for the ref. 5711. With only two years of production, it is extremely rare to find one with its accessories in today’s market.
