Notes

The 3971 remains one of the elusive and extremely rare perpetual calendar chronographs produced by Patek Philippe. Made in 2 distinct series, one with a clip on sapphire caseback, the second with a transparent screwback only, these were made in extremely small numbers, scholars talk about 300 examples made between the 2 series. This particular example is part of the early first series with a transparent clip-on caseback and in October 2001, the client contacted the Henri Stern agency in NY and requested his dial to be changed to a 5004 dial that is currently fitted on the watch.
Purchased by the current owner at Antiquorum in Honk Kong in July 2005 (lot 404), the watch has remained unworn since with crisp hallmarks at the back of the lugs, it is a rare opportunity to purchase one of the most important references 3971 ever produced.
