Notes

Patek Philippe Ref. 5077P Marquetry Rabbits represents Patek Philippe’s unrivaled mastery of rare handcrafts. This extraordinary platinum timepiece transcends conventional watchmaking into the realm of wearableart.

The mesmerizing dial showcases exquisite wood marquetry—a highly specialized technique where artisansmeticulously cut, fit, and affix thin pieces of different-colored wood to create an intricate composition of tworabbits gracefully resting together. This miniature masterpiece begins as a detailed drawing reduced to watchscale, serving as a template for the intricate cutting process.

The marquetry specialist selects from up to 70 different wood varieties to capture the subtle color transitions andtextures of the rabbits’ fur. Using specialized tools like a fretsaw or chevalet with ultra-fine blades, the artisancuts minute wood fragments—some thinner than a human hair. Each microscopic fragment requires exceptionalprecision and patience, with master craftsmen selecting specific wood varieties for their natural colors andtextures to achieve remarkable depth and detail.

These precisely cut pieces are meticulously assembled with hot glue and pressed together. Multiple layers ofveneer may be superimposed to create a three-dimensional effect despite the dial’s flat surface. Diamond indicesadorn the perimeter of the dial, adding subtle brilliance that complements rather than competes with themarquetry artwork.
