The reference 5712/1A is one of the most distinctive and mechanically engaging interpretations of the modern Nautilus. Introduced in 2006 for the collection’s 30th anniversary, it retained the unmistakable architecture of Gérald Genta’s original design while introducing an unusual asymmetric display combining a power reserve, subsidiary seconds, date and moon phases.
The present example, dating from 2009, is particularly remarkable for having remained double sealed and therefore essentially preserved as it left Patek Philippe. The watch remains enclosed within its original factory packaging, an increasingly rare state of preservation for a steel Nautilus of this generation. For collectors, such untouched presentation offers a fascinating snapshot of how the watch was originally delivered more than fifteen years ago.
Its 40 mm stainless steel case is paired with the integrated Nautilus bracelet, combining brushed surfaces with polished accents that emphasise the characteristic geometry of the case and bezel. Beneath the sealed protective packaging is the celebrated horizontally embossed dial, distinguished by the deliberately off-centred arrangement of its indications.
Inside is the ultra-thin self-winding calibre 240 PS IRM C LU, equipped with Patek Philippe’s signature micro-rotor architecture. The movement drives the hours and minutes, subsidiary seconds, power-reserve indication, date and moon phases while maintaining the slim profile fundamental to the elegance of the Nautilus.
The combination of the reference 5712/1A’s complication, stainless steel construction and exceptional double-sealed condition makes the present example especially compelling. Rather than simply representing a well-preserved watch, it survives as a remarkably complete and untouched example of one of the defining complicated Nautilus references of the modern era.
The watch is accompanied by its original fitted box, Certificate of Origin and booklets, and is fitted to its stainless steel Patek Philippe bracelet with double deployant clasp.
