Patek Philippe & Cie, Geneve, No. 868253, case No. 665017, Ref. 2499, 1st series, circa 1954. Very fine and rare astronomic, 18ct gold gentleman's wristwatch with square button chronograph, register and tachometer, perpetual calendar and moon phases.

C. massive, polished, concave bezel and back edge. D. matt silver with applied gold Arabic numerals + auxiliary second and 30 minute register dials, graduation for the days of the month, outer tachometer graduation, apertures for the days of the week, the months and the lunations. "Feuille" gold hands. M. 13 "' rhodiumed, "fausses cotes" decoration, 23 jewels, lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance adjusted to 8 positions, Breguet balance-spring, micrometer regulator. Dial, case and movement signed. In excellent condition. Diam. 36 mm.

Ref. 2499: Produced in 349 examples from 1950 to 1985, in yellow, pink and white gold. - First series from 1950 to 1960 circa. Square buttons, "Feuille" hands, applied Arabic numerals, fluted lugs. - Second series. Square buttons, "Dauphine" hands, applied indexes, the 12 in Arabic numerals. - Third series From 1960 to 1978. Round buttons, crystal glass, applied "baton" indexes, "Dauphine" or "Feuille" hands. - Fourth series - Ref. 2499/100 from 1978 to 1985. Round buttons, sapphire crystal, applied "baton" indexes, "Dauphine" hands. Very few examples were made with telemeter scale and three pieces only with sapphire crystal back. A similar watch is published in Collezionare Orologi Patek Philippe by M. and O. Patrizzi, page 246. In the aftermath of victory, on 1 December 1918 he was named Regent of the Kingdoms of Serbia Croatia and Slovenia and succeeded to the throne on the death of his father on 17 August 1921. The following year, in Belgrade, he married the Princess Maria (daughter of Ferdinand and Maria of Roumania) with whom he had three children, the their Prince Pietro, succeeding him as Pietro II when the Princes Tanislav and Andrea were respectively 6 and 5 years old. Alexander I has become a legendary figure in the history of his country fulfilling the mythic role of the valorous hero. He had a passion for wrist- and pocket-watches that became notorious, and collected a considerable number of wrist-watches of which he had a true adoration. Several of them are well known having already through leading world auctions.
