?Tachometer Scale? Patek Philippe & Cie, Genève, No. 868602, case No. 696514, Ref. 2499, second series. Made in 1957, sold December 12, 1958. Very fine and extremely rare, astronomic, 18K yellow gold gentleman's wristwatch with round button chronograph, tachometer scale, register, perpetual calendar, moon phases and an 18K yellow gold buckle. Cal. 12''', stamped with the Seal of Geneva Quality Mark, rhodium-plated, "fausses-côtes"decoration, 23 jewels, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance witheight adjustments, blued steel Breguet balance-spring, swan-neck micrometer regulator.Dial, case and movement signed.Diam. 38 mm. A similar watch is published in ?Collecting Patek Philippe Wristwatches? by Osvaldo Patrizzi, Guido Mondani Editore, 2004, vol. II, pp. 164, 165 & 167. Ref. 2499 Produced in 349 examples from 1951 to 1985, very few with tachometer scale, the majority in yellow gold, and a very few examples in pink gold. First series: from 1951 to circa 1960, with applied upright Arabic numerals, "feuille" hands, and square chronograph pushbuttons. ? Second series: with round buttons, "feuille" hands, and applied Arabic numerals. Third series: round buttons, "dauphine" hands, applied indexes. ? Fourth series: from 1960 to 1978, round buttons, "dauphine" or "feuille" hands, applied "bâton" indexes, sapphire crystal. In this series, only four watches with black dials are known. Only one split-seconds chronograph with waterproof case is known bearing this reference, specially made by Patek Philippe for Gobbi, Milano, in 1982. One of the particularities of this watch is that it was designed with an unusually high bezel, similar to that of Ref. 2499/100. This watch was recently completely overhauled by Chronométrie Beyer, Zürich. Seal of Geneva Quality Mark. The best Geneva movements, such as this one, were punched with the Seal of Geneva Quality Mark. This is a trademark of the Office of Geneva Control of Watches estabilished on November 6, 1886. Paragraph 3 of the statutes states that the watches awarded the Seal of Geneva Quality Mark must ?after examination prove to have a perfect mechanism to ensure regular and durable functioning?.
