Notes

Unknown until today, this watch is appearing at auction for the first time. Purchased new by the owner?s father, the watch was treated with the utmost care over the years, being worn only on rare occasions. While the extract clearly states the watch was delivered on a leather bracelet, the extremely rare expandable Gay Frères bracelet (also signed Patek Philippe) is of the period, being dated 3.1957. It is likely that shortly after the purchase the owner returned to Patek Philippe to order a gold bracelet (for examples of a similar bracelet in steel see "Steel Patek Philippe" by John Goldberger, pg 432). The case has remained in virtually unused condition, exhibiting a superb step-down on the lugs and crisp, clear hallmarks to the sides of the lug and case. The inside of the caseback is also free from any watchmaker's mark, indicating that this watch may indeed never been serviced. Even more desirable than the reference 2497 due to its waterproof qualities, this example is sure to delight Patek enthusiasts
