Notes

Ref. 3940. This reference was first presented to the press in 1985. The first 25 watches of this reference bore a gilt dial and were numbered from 1 to 25. These wat-ches were made to celebrate the 225th anniversary of chronometry Beyer in Zurich, and had movement No. 770001 through 770025. It is thought that No. 770000 was retained by Patek Philippe for desplay in the museum. The present watch as well as lot 250 are among the efirst 100 watches in normal production and both bear a two-tone silvered dial typical of the 3940 first series. Anq an indepth article on the reference 3940 will be published in the Spring 2006 Vox.
