Cal. 315/198, stamped with the Seal of Geneva Quality Mark, rhodium-plated, fausses cotes decoration, 35 jewels, straight line lever escapement, Gyromax balance, shock absorber, self-compensating freesprung flat balance spring, 21K gold rotor. On March 1, 1996, Patek Philippe obtained Swiss Patent No. 685585 G for a completely new date mechanism : an annual calendar for a wristwatch with automatic winding. This ingenious mechanism is programmed to take into account the varying lengths of each month from March 1 to the end of February of the following year. This is the first automatic wristwatch in which the calendar needs to be adjusted only once a year.
