Two-body, solid, polished, bezel engraved with ?Patek Philippe, Geneve,? screwed-down transparent case back, protected crown, push button on the band at 10 to adjust the discs for the different time zones, the 24 hours and hour hand, concave lugs, sapphire crystals. D. Central cloisonné enamel depicting the European and American continents surrounded by a brushed silver and blue revolving disc in 24 hours for the diurnal and nocturnal hours, outer revolving brushed silver ring dial bearing the names of 24 global locations. Yellow gold dauphine and ring hands. M. Cal. 240HU, stamped with the Seal of Geneva quality mark, rhodium-plated, fausses cotes decoration, 33 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, Gyromax balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, shock absorber, self-compensating freesprung fl at balance spring, 22K gold micro-rotor. Released at Basel World in 2008 the Patek Philippe world-time with cloisonne dial Ref.5131 was promoted as much as a work of art as it was for any technical achievement. Each dial is hand made by an artisan trained in enameling and requires both artistic and chemical skills to mix the enamel correctly. Due to the lengthy process, high failure rate and lack of skilled artisans, Patek Philippe announced only a small number of the Ref.5131 would be available each each year.
Similarities can instantly be drawn to the Patek Philippe world-time references of the 1940's and 50's with enamel dials that infl uenced the 5131 such as the Ref.2523.
