Ref. 539, Black Dial Patek Philippe & Co, Genève, retailed by Freccero, No. 828783, case No. 295696, Ref. 539. Made in 1938, sold on March 29, 1939. Very fine and exceptionally rare, 18K yellow gold wristwatch with stepped hooded lugs and black dial. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives.

C. Three-body, polished and brushed, stepped bezel, stepped hooded lugs, the back and interior of the back with engraved inscription. D. Black with applied yellow gold pyramidal and baton indexes, outer painted gold minute track, subsidiary dial for the seconds. Yellow gold dauphine hands. M. Cal. 12???-120, rhodiumplated, fausses cotes decoration, 18 jewels, wolf?s tooth winding, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, blued steel Breguet balance spring, swan-neck micrometer regulator. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 31 mm. Thickness 8.5 mm.

The present lot is only the second example of ref. 539 wth black dial to have passed through these rooms since 1990. Interestingly, the only other example was also retailed by Freccero.
