Notes

Production of the Ref. 5396R started in 2006. Ref. 5396 draws its case design from Ref. 96, the "Calatrava", and its dial inspiration from a historic 1930s model. It features a new layout of the Annual Calendar displays. The annual calendar system has long been a successful complication for the firm. On March 1, 1996, Patek Philippe obtained Swiss Patent No. 685585 G for a new date mechanism: an annual calendar for a wristwatch with automatic winding. This mechanism is programmed to take into account the varying lengths of each month from March 1 to the following February. Initially implemented in Ref. 5035?s calibre 315/198, it was the first automatic wristwatch in which the date had to be adjusted only once a year. The new calibre 324/303 was redesigned to eliminate several levers; it features unidirectional winding and Patek Philippe?s time-tested ?Gyromax? balance.
