Very fine and rare, flared, rectangular "bombé", "Pagoda"-shaped, 18K yellow gold commemorative gentleman's wristwatch with an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe buckle.

C. two-body, flared rectangular, solid, polished, case back en-graved "Commemoration 1997 "Pagoda". D. champagne with applied yellow gold Roman numerals, auxiliary rectangular seconds dial. "Feuille" oxydized yellow gold hands. M. Cal. 215 stamped with the Geneva Quality Hallmark, rhodium-plated, "fausses-côtes" decoration, 18 jewels, straight line lever escape-ment, Gyromax balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, shock-absorber, self-compensating free-sprung flat balance-spring. Dial, case and movement signed. With box and certificate. Dim. 29 x 41 mm.

Notes

The "Pagoda" series was specially produced in 1997 to mark the inauguration of Patek Philippe's new watchmaking manufacture in Geneva. 2 limited editions were issued, Ref. 5500, the Gentleman’s model, in 2000 examples and Ref. 4900, the Lady’s model, in 750 examples. Destruction of the tools and dies used in the production of the Pagoda ensured that these references, 5500 and 4900, could no longer be produced. To further ensure their exclusivity, each edition came in different metals for the cases and was produced in the following quantities: Ref. 5500J – 1100 in 18K yellow gold, Ref. 5500R – 500 in 18K rose gold, Ref. 5500G – 250 in 18K white gold and Ref. 5500P – 150 in platinum. Ref. 4900J - 500 in 18K yellow gold, Ref. 4900 R - 150 in 18K rose gold and Ref. 4900G - 100 in 18K white gold. The "Pagoda" limited edition sets were produced in 5 examples only. Patek Philippe’s first commemorative timepieces ever, the Pagodas drew their inspiration from Patek’s famous 1940"s "Eiffel tower" design.
