D. matte white gold with applied gold Breguet numerals, outer minute dot divisions, subsidiary seconds. Gold Breguet hands. M. 38 mm (17???), cal. 17-170, rhodium-plated, 18 jewels, adjusted to 5 positions, heat, cold, and isochronism, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance with self-compensating Breguet balance spring, ?swan-neck? micrometric regulator, punched twice with the Seal of Geneva Quality mark.Signed on dial, case and movement, the enamel signed and dated by the artist.Diam. 44 mm.

G. Menni was an artist commissioned by Patek Philippe on a number of occasions for some of their most important watches. For instance, in the 1980s, when Patek Philippe decided to make a few Grande Complication watches in the way they had been made one hundred years earlier, they chose Menni to decorate some of the cases. In the 1980s the company launched a small series of pocket watches with cases painted on enamel by Menni. For the present watch Menni chose a subject painted by Flemish artist Peeters Bonaventura circa 1640. A similar watch decorated by Menni is in the Patek Philippe Museum and is illustrated in Patek Philippe Watches, Vol. 1, first edition, by Huber and Banbery, p. 168, pl. 129.
