Cast iron, steel and brass, precision measuring instrument, called “Spheromètre de Perreaux” after its inventor, mounted on a tripod with a micrometric screw, a vertical scale of eleven centimetres (graduated “4-0-7”, divided in millimetres), a horizontal circle divided into 500 parts and a articulated segment of circle divided into 80 parts mounted with a pointer, used to measure the radii of curvature of surfaces (mainly used in the field of optics for lenses, mirrors, etc.); on a wooden base, under a glass dome; with two multi-shaped steel studs.

Perreaux, Louis-Guillaume
Almenêches (Orne), February 19, 1816 – Paris, April 5, 1889

French inventor; he called himself a “ingénieur-mécanicien” (mechanical engineer), active in Paris in the mid-19th century (14, rue Monsieur le Prince; 8, rue Jean Bart).
