PIAGET FOR ASPREY - EXCEPTIONAL DIAMOND & SAPPHIRE HAUTE JOAILLERIE WATCH ? SPECIAL ORDER FOR THE SULTAN OF OMAN Piaget for Asprey, movement No. 85406, case No. 443938, Ref. 12278. Made in 1985 as a special order for Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said of Oman to comemmorate the fifteenth anniversary of his accession. Exceptional and extremely fine, self-winding 18K white gold wristwatch set with 222 baguette diamonds with a total weight of 29.89 carats and 124 square sapphires with a total weight of 8.48 carats with an integral 18K white gold, diamond and sapphire-set Piaget bracelet.

Fifteen-sided, polished and brushed, the bezel set with 26 white baguette diamonds and four sapphires, the back with five screws, winding crown recessed in the band at 4, the bracelet set with a further 196 white baguette diamonds and 120 sapphires. D. Mother of pearl with the emblem of the Sultanate of Oman in blue in the upper half and two diamond-set Arabic numerals on a brushed gold ground in the lower half for the number `15`. White gold dauphine hands. M. Cal 12P, rhodium plated, fausses cotes decoration, 30 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, self-compensating flat balance spring, shock absorber, index regulator, 24K gold micro-rotor. Dial, case and movement signed. DIAM. 37 mm. THICKNESS 5.5 mm. Approx. Overall length 170 mm.

Piaget archives confirm that the present watch was made as a special order for Asprey for the Sultan of Oman in 1985. Three pieces were made to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the Sultan?s accession in 1970, two were made in white gold and one in yellow gold. The archives also confirm that the watch is set with 222 diamonds with a total carat weight of 29.89 carats and 124 sapphires with a total weight of 8.48 carats. The price in 1985 was the then enormous sum of 204,590 Swiss Francs.
