According to the Piaget archives, in 1980 Piaget produced a series of 1400 medallions in celebration of the 1400th celebration of the Hijrah era (which is the journey of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina). Most of these were made as jewellery pieces and a very small number such as this one were made as wristwatches.
