Rolex "Prince", Ref. 3140, made in 1937 in very few examples, formerly the property of Al Capone,. Very fine and rare, rectangular, 18ct gold gentleman's wristwatch.

C. massive, polished, cylindrical hooded lugs. D. mat silver with painted Arabic numerals + auxiliary seconds dial. "Moderne" blued steel hands. M. 7 1/2 "' tonneau, rhodiumed, 17 jewels, lever escapement, Superbalance balance, self-compensating Breguet balance-spring. Dial, case and movement signed. hz very good condition. Dim. 22 x 39 mm.

Alfonso Capone, so-called AL CAPONE, born in Naples in 1899, died in 1947 in Miami. Famous American gangster of Chicago in the 1920-1930's. He defied the U.S. Government during the Prohibition by organizing an illicit trade of alcoholic beverages. He built an enormous fortune with this business and crime. After his death, his son put this watch at auction at Sotheby's. Note the perfect condition of the original dial.
