Ref. 5100 ?Quartz? Rolex, Quartz, Ref. 5100. No. 060. Made in 1970. Very fine and exceptionally rare, tonneau-shaped, center seconds, 18K yellow gold gentleman's quartz wristwatch with date, and an 18K yellow gold bracelet.

C. Three-body, polished and brushed, faceted gold bezel, geometrical-shaped hooded lugs, crystal with "cyclops" lens D. Silvered with applied yellow gold indexes, luminous dots, outer minute/seconds track, aperture for the date. Luminous gold "bâton" hands. M. Cal. Beta 21, 13 jewels, frequency of the quartz oscillator: 8192 Hz, reduced to 256 Hz by the frequency reducer. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 38 mm. Thickness 13.5 mm.

This model was made in 999 pieces. After a year of research for the study of a quartz wrist caliber, the 'Electronic Watch Center' (CEH), developed and finished the caliber Beta 21 (29 x 24,3 mm. It was ready for production in 1969 and was presented at the Basel Fair in 1970. This watch is illustrated in ?Rolex, Collecting Wristwatches?, by Osvaldo Patrizzi, 2001 Edition, p 364.
